Acting in Commercials

Some of the better acting colleges in New York offer classes in Commercial Acting. How does this style of acting differ from theater or film? In commercial acting, you are being called upon to sell a product. Unlike dramatic acting, no one needs (or wants) to see a character arc. No one really cares too much about the person you're playing. Rather, your job is to present an image (i.e., Mom, Dad, fast food counter person, banker, etc.), to sell the product for which the commercial has been written.

It's trickier than it may seem! Skills as a commercial actor involve intense salesmanship combined with performance ability. That's why taking a class in commercial acting is a great idea for anyone interested in making commercials.
